National Refugee Day

The United Nations have introduced World Refugee Day as an international day to honour the lives of  refugees around the world. Every year on June 20, the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution is widely celebrated. World Refugee Day is an occasion deeply rooted to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives. It is surprising and even tragic to know that every minute, 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror, identified as refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, stateless persons, and returnees.

We at NMPC promote awareness of this fact by standing up in solidarity with refugees by giving support to young refugees to pursue higher education through donation channels from the UN, advocating to social media to help amplify the voices of refugees this World Refugee Day, and learning to discover the latest stats and trends in forced displacement globally – to learn how refugees and displaced people are being impacted by the climate crisis and taking action in their communities.
