Labor Day: Turning the Spotlight to the Hard Work, Resilience, and Dedication of Filipino Workers

May 1st is the observance of Labor Day in the Philippines. As we draw near to the half of the year, come May, what better way to remember this day, but to celebrate the hard work and fighting spirit of the Filipino workforce. It is undeniably in our veins as Filipinos. We love to hone our craft and we respect our craft by going the extra mile in our work responsibilities as dedicated individuals. Indeed, this day serves as a warming tribute to our resilient blood of workers from across all industries: from offices and factories, to service sectors and beyond.

We, at NMPC, consider it crucial to know and consider the challenges that come with being a Filipino worker. It is important that we continue to fight and advocate for labor movements for the benefit of our workers’ rights, fair wages, and better and ethical working conditions. It is an opportunity to celebrate the many achievements and successes of each worker, as it is to be aware of the importance of labor laws to serve and push improvement for workers’ livelihoods.

There are many ways to celebrate Labor Day; whether we spend it as our off day to rest, spending time with loved ones, or even participating in events that put the spotlight to the significance and importance of labor rights, Labor Day is a commemorative reminder of how essential and vital are the roles of workers’ to the uplifting progress off our nation.
